Be it a small ride in the rain or a football match, or just enjoying by simply drenching. Each one of these activities actually does contribute to adverse health effects. Thus here we explain some scenarios to look after during the rainy season. Increase your Vitamin C intake. The rainy season also is a good supplier of Communicable diseases, viral infections, allergies and all different kinds of flu. To withstand and shield this we have to enhance our immune system, especially in the middle of a pandemic. Vitamin C intake improves the immune system, thus it can be consumed as medication or by food. Eating sprouts, fresh green vegetables and citrus fruits also contribute to high immunity levels. Eat healthy food.Eating fresh and healthy food is important in this monsoon season. Thereby we can avoid junk food that has its own share in spreading diseases. Since street food/junk food is often made on the streets, it has often seemed to be unhealthy. Avoid stagnant water presence. Stagnant water often helps in spreading diseases, it can lead to microbial or mosquito infestations. Due to this water bodies should never be allowed to remain stagnant for a long time. There are also chances for your pets to consume water from these sources and get infected. Most sources of contained stagnant water are garden, water collector trey of refrigerator and tubes. Iron clothesCloths during the monsoon season are too delicate such that molds and fungal infestations will grow on these. The best way to avoid this is to preserve cloths in dry areas also iron the cloths such that moisture presence is controlled. Exercise regularlyWorkout is very important in this monsoon season. This season we often feel not to leave the bed and take some extra nap time. This lazy habit will eventually end your workout routine. If it’s raining outside better get some workout gear and do some home workouts. Take care of your body.Taking good care of your body is very important especially during the monsoon season. Times have changed, yet even today we find it difficult to comprehend the very basic deviations from the normal growth behavior of a child and suggest an Early Intervention. Generations have conditioned the various taboo around Genetic issues and have always ‘swept it under the rug’. As the data of The Centre for Disease control suggests every 1 out of 68 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, which hereby throws light on the very basic aspect of Early Intervention. The symptoms of Autism can be detected at the age of 18 months. The normal human brain of a 2-3-year-old baby is just like plastic, i.e. it can be molded and trained with due attention provided. This in a way also helps to kick start the treatment as fast as possible, which in turn would provide great results for the child. Here is where Early intervention plays its pivotal role. The early symptoms of autism can be exhibited in the initial months. The child will show no eye contact while talking/calling out. This is one of the common diagnosable symptoms of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) The child will show reluctance in participating in any activities/play. This clearly suggests the absence of attention on one thing at a time. This is one of the most important diagnostic features of ASD, where a child pays very little emotional attention. He/she will find it difficult to laugh or cry on expected occasions. This shows a very low level of Emotional quotient in an ASD diagnosed individual. ASD diagnosed individuals will find it difficult to attend to his/her own name. This is one of the major symptoms of Autism, one should take their children for Early intervention if they started showing any of the above symptoms. These are some of the early diagnosable symptoms of Autistic behavior. Early intervention is the very first and the best step in diagnosing and treating ASD, proper diagnosis leads to the right treatment at the right time and thereby finding out more avenues to the betterment of the Individual. Also Integrated developmental and Behavioral Intervention should be provided to an ASD diagnosed individual, along with Physiotherapy (Neuro), Behavioral Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Special Education. IAN Institute of Rehabilitation and Research, Thrissur is the one and only center that can provide all these necessary treatments under one single roof. The institute looks forward to educating, inform and empower the differently-abled and works for a Differently abled friendly society. – by Thomas John Emmatty

Since we all are in the midst of a pandemic and currently facing lockdown, it would be difficult to go out and exercise. By simply excluding the fitness freaks, it’s either an excuse or a reason to not work out for the rest of us. But witnessing the importance of the immunity factor at the time of a pandemic, the role of exercise becomes a necessity instead of an excuse. The major problem we face these days is the absence of space at home for the major share of workouts, including cardio exercise. Cardio sessions are an important factor in maintaining cardiovascular health and lose weight in the process, on the side, it provides a high level of immunity. Here we suggest some workout steps boost up your cardio routine on these lockdown days. Climbing the stairs. Let’s start with a simple and easy exercise. Climbing stairs helps to build your lower body alongside this routine also helps to increase your Heart rate. Take adequate intervals between each set and also alternate between normal stair run and sideways stair run. This helps in burning calories even after your workout schedule. Make sure to use exercise shoes and gear for the workout. This kind of routine is most suitable for people living in residential buildings. Jogging Running/jogging at pace is an important part of any cardio workout session. Currently, due to lockdown constraints, it’s difficult to go out for a run. Instead, we can do that at home in the constraints of a small space, this can be attained by jogging with pace. It sounds boring instead you can do a routine of different exercises including skipping, burpees and strength training, this compensates for the complex workout routine. Skipping/Jump ropes This is a simple yet complex exercise that can build the lower part of your body. As a kid, you might have memories of skipping for no reason, but it becomes pretty intense when you add it to your workout session. Jumping ropes for 20 min reduces 220 calories at a stretch. This routine is also so far the best exercise that can be done indoors, while locked up at home. Squat jumps This is another intense workout, which can be done indoors. Here the routine helps to strengthen the knee area. For this, you have to start in a squat position and jump as high as possible and end in the same squat position. If you are a beginner you can be a little careful while doing the routine. Kickboxing This helps not only as a cardio routine instead helps in strength training. Here it’s a mix of Karate and Kickboxing. You can start with a punching bag or an exercise video, it’s not always necessary. In addition, it helps to get rid of stress and anger. At a time with 10 minutes of Kickboxing, you can reduce up to 110 cal. These are some of the finest workout sessions that can be practiced at home. Above everything, there should be an inner fire driving you every morning. This should be able to wake you up; regardless of any constraints and make you work out and sweat. – by Thomas John Emmatty
